Jira Software Data Center

Named the most admired company in healthcare in 2015 by Fortune magazine, Cerner develops technology solutions and services that allow health data to be securely shared between clinical venues. Cerner’s solutions are licensed at more than 18,000 health facilities around the globe, and the company has 21,000 employees worldwide.

Challenge
Cerner needed to replace its homegrown issue tracking system with one that would scale and provide flexibility to meet the needs of different teams.

Solution
In 2008, a team of 20 developers at Cerner adopted Jira. As Jira gained popularity and spread to more development teams at the company, IT set about centralizing operations and giving teams the customizations they needed.

Fast forward to October 2015, Cerner has moved to Jira Data Center to handle 10,000 additional Jira users. The rapidly growing development environment currently contains about 1.5M Jira issues, 3M comments, and 1,500 projects. Cerner worked with its Atlassian Technical Account Manager for guidance on scaling and adapting Jira for the company’s unique requirements. Cerner also stays on top of upgrades – upgrading Jira about once a year.

Benefits
“In 2014, we had 55 outages. In 2015, we reduced that number to seven. Now with Jira Data Center, we believe that number will be even smaller in 2016,“ says Mike Damman, knowledge architect at Cerner.
